Hi Friends I have this Western digital My passport 1tb black external hard disk. I was very happy with it and it was running smooth as butter. (Most of the times I safely removed) suddenly 2 days ago when I connected it, entered WD security password I noticed that now in my computer it was showing as local drive and green progress bar in my computer's address bar was moving till 'X' sign then hanged. white light blinked for initial 2-3 mins then become steady. I tried almost all probable solutions I could find on various forums. I tried disabling driver then re-enabling (Didn't work) - I tried chkdsk (Didn't work no response for almost 15 mins then I closed cmd) - I check disk management it shows white space (I dont remember the tag unavailable or unallocated) Data in that HD is very close to my heart, pics and video associated with my memories.
Hi i have a WD my passport ultra 1 TB hard drive. It was working completely fine, until one day it stopped getting detected. 1) i tried putting other cables, NOT HELPED. 2) also tried in other laptops, NOT HELPED. 3) recently tried with a Macbook Pro 13', it showed for a second, but hanged my laptop. Why does my computer no longer recognize my WD Passport drive? Denise Turk October 10, 2011. Email Facebook Whatsapp Pinterest Twitter. After restarting your pc, if it does not detect your external hard disk using different usb ports, then try to connect another hard external hard disk to your pc.
Please help me how to get it work again or recover data. NOTE: when i installed WD smart it gets hanged and WD utilities says first connect a WD source or something like that please save me guys Thanks Ankit. Hey there, ankitagru! I'm so sorry to hear that the WD My Passport is doing this to you. Good job with the troubleshooting steps. Have you tried it on another computer or using a different USB cable? Can you check the Disk management again and tell me what is the file system of the drive and is it indeed listed as unallocated with a black bar at the top?
I can suggest you to try to test the drive using WD's diagnostic utility - Data LifeGuard: Check to see if it will pass the extended test. If the data is that important to you, I think your best chance at recovering it is through a professional data recovery company. You can see those we work with here: Afterwards, you could contact our tech support for further information on RMA-ing the WD My Passport, if it's still under warranty you could get a replacement. Contacts: Keep me posted!
Hope this helps you!
